上人法語

  •   戒為護福之根本,德為利人之根本,施為致福之根本,修為持正之根本。
      A precept is the basis for protecting blessings; virtue is the basis for benefiting others; alms giving is the basis for bringing about blessing; and the practice of the Dharma is the basis for living a righteous life.
  •   生活中,不管遇到任何事情,不論憂、悲、喜、樂,心理都不要妄動。
      In daily life, when you encounter any event, affair, or incident, no matter if it causes anxiety, sadness, delight, or happiness; do not react rashly in your mind.
  •   我們學佛的人,要與人結法緣,不要與人結塵緣、惡緣;要離情尚義,不要被情欲所困;對情、愛、欲能看破放下,不要執著貪染,如此才能解脫自在。
      Learning from the Buddha, it is essential that we form a Dharma bond with others rather than a worldly bond or even negative bond; that we separate ourselves from emotional feeling, advocate the cause of righteousness and honor, and are not besieged with affections and desires; that we see through to the true nature of affections, love, and desires, and lay down the attachments to them. Only then will we be liberated and at ease.
  •   知道認錯的人才是真聰明,知道懺悔的人才是有智慧。
      Only those who realize their mistakes and are willing to admit them are truly intelligent. Only those who know their faults and are willing to confess them have wisdom.
  •   人的身心如大地,學善行善如種禾,惡念惡行如雜草。
      Our body and mind are just like the earth; learning good deeds and conducting virtuous actions is like planting rice, while bad ideas or behaviors are like the weeds.
  •   乞憐的人,是得不到別人的同情的;高慢的人,是得不到別人的尊敬的;自卑的人,是得不到別人的重視的;妄語的人,是得不到別人的信任的。
      One who begs for pity receives no sympathy from others.One who is arrogant, and insolent receives no respect from others.One who is self-abased receives little attention from others.One who lies receives no trust from others.
  •   美化青年的身心,激勵青年的壯志,創造青年的幸福,光明青年的前途,啓發青年的智慧,展現青年的才華。
      We have to beautify young people’s heart and minds, inspire their lofty ideals, create happiness for them, brighten their prospects, enlighten their intelligence, and develop and help them utilize their talents.
  •   可憐不自覺:我相現前易著魔,貢高我慢易著魔,我執我見易著魔,陰行自私易著魔。修行若不識魔相,慧命堪虞自可憐,惟有佛前真懺悔,回光返照空照魔。
      It’s a pity not to be aware; thus it is easy to be overcome by your demons when the ego appears, when one shows self-conceit and arrogance, when one holds on to their ego and view of self, and when one behaves in a selfish and sinister way. One who practices the Buddhist Dharma and knows nothing of the forms and presentations of demons, has to worry about one’s own cultivation of wisdom. One must secure oneself by confessing sincerely before a Buddha statue, and one will be cast by the light of wisdom, realizing everything is empty in nature and that will enable them to see through the demons.
  •   吃飯要吃好,睡眠要睡好,工作要做好,修行要修好。
      When you are eating, eat well; when sleeping, sleep well; when working, work well; and when practicing Dharma, practice well.
  •   善行人根本,行善福無量;自利以利人,自他兩俱利,此乃菩薩行。覺悟證真理,真理導世人,是名為菩薩。人乘之大道,推行在菩薩;人人做菩薩,娑婆淨土成。
      Doing good is the root of human existence, and good deeds lead to boundless good blessings. Regulating our behaviors and benefiting ourselves, we also benefit others, and both will obtain benefits because such deeds are the conduct of a Bodhisattva. One who attains enlightenment, testifies to the truth, and leads worldly people with such truth, is called a Bodhisattva. It is the Bodhisattva who promotes the way of Ren-Cheng (Human-Vehicle) Buddhism; and if everyone can conduct oneself as a Bodhisattva, then a pure land in this saha world is realized.
  •   樂即是苦,苦即是樂,得到解脫,不苦不樂;若不了此,墮!墮!墮!墮!
      One aspect of joy is suffering; and suffering is joy. When you obtain liberation, there is neither joy nor suffering. If you do not realize it, you will only fall and keep falling in your practice.
  •   孤立別人,就是孤立自己;成就別人,就是成就自己。
      Isolating others isolates oneself; helping others achieve is one’s own achievement.
  •   人乘佛子,乘人之乘,行菩薩道,直達佛地。
      The Buddha’s children, followers of Ren-Cheng (Human-Vehicle) Buddhism, by taking advantage of their human form and conducting themselves in the way of a Bodhisattva, will directly reach the ultimate state of Buddhahood.
  •   父母撫養、教育恩,山高海樣深;社會眾生恩,世人得生存;聖化師教恩,智慧有技能;衛民國家恩,樂業保安寧;四恩時時報,道德日日增。
      We must always be grateful to our parents who raised and educated us. Gratitude owed on account of the kindness received from our parents is deeper than the sea and higher than mountains. We must be grateful to society and all people for allowing everyone to survive; to all saints for teaching us wisdom and skills; and to our nation for providing us with protection, employment, and a peaceful life. If everyone is always grateful and returns favors, the level of morality in our society will increase every day.
  •   眾生有方所、有內外、有中邊,佛法是無方所、無內外、無中邊。
      All beings have senses of direction and location, inside and outside, center and peripheral; while the Dharma has no measures of direction or position, inside or outside, center or boundary.
